To email Joe directly:

At 10 years old, Joe was introduced to photography by his dad who was an accomplished still photographer.  Thru high school,  Joe’s passion for photography grew, and he served on the school newspaper, and yearbook as the photo editor.

Becoming more and more interested in the moving image,  Joe wanted to tell stories. Upon graduation from High School, he enrolled in New York City’s School of Visual arts to study filmmaking.  Joe specialized in cinematography, and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in film.   After graduating,  Joe went on and became a Steadicam operator where he learned the intricacies, and subtleties of camera movement. This would later serve him well as a cinematographer.

Joe has traveled the world, and has shot hundreds of commercials, and over 21 independent films, including the New York cult classic “Johnny Suede’ starring Brad Pitt. His films have been in numerous festivals such as Cannes, South by South West, and Sundance.  One of his films, “What Happened Was”  won the Sundance Grand Jury Prize. He recently completed work on the Feature film “The Girl Who Invented Kissing”, starring Dash Mihok (Ray Donovan), Vincent Piazza (Boardwalk Empire) and Abbie Cornish (Limitless, Sucker Punch).

Joe’s experience in feature films has especially trained him to work and be sensitive to the needs of actors. He has collaborated with actor / directors on several films and they have relied on him to help them evaluate performance and advise them from behind the camera.  In addition, his work on narrative independent films has afforded him with the ability and skill to work quickly,  making use of natural and minimalist lighting to create a larger cinematic effect.

Having worked as a Director Of Photography in commercials for many years, Joe has shot for a wide range of TV spot directors, including   ACNE/TOMAS, CHRIS APPLEBAUM, BRIAN ALDRICH, EVAN BERNARD, SCOTTY BERGSTEIN, KEVIN BRAY, BRYAN BUCKLEY, SCOTT BURNS, PAUL CADE, STEVE CARR, TED DEMME, JOHN DOLAN, FILIP ENGSTROM, SEAN EHRINGER, MICHAEL FAY, FILTER, JEFFREY FLEISIG, FAB 5 FREDDY, SCOTT GERLOCK, CHRISTIAN HOAGLAND, ED NAMMOUR, CHRIS HOOPER, BRUCE HURWIT, ANDREW JENKINS, JIM JENKINS, SPIKE JONZE, BARTON LANDSMAN, RICK LEMOINE, DAVID LEVIN, DAVE MERHAR, DAVE MEYERS, BENNETT MILLER, JOSH MILLER, STEVE MILLER, BRENDAN GIBBONS, NOAM MURRO, PAUL NORLING, JOHN O’HAGEN, HANK PERLMAN, SCOTT VINCENT, TOM SCHILLER, STAN SCHOFIELD, DAVID SHANE, NICK SPOONER,  ANDY FRENCH, JUDY STARKMAN, PAUL STREET, STYLE WAR, NEIL TARDIO JR., FRANK TODARO, TRAKTOR, SUSE UHLENBROCK, CHRISTOPHER VON REIS, ALEX WINTER, MAGGIE ZACKHEIM

As an avid auto buff and hobbyist car restorer, Joe has really been enjoying shooting car spots.    He loves designing driving / camera car / Russian Arm shots and has collaborated with some of the best stunt drivers and camera car people in the business.

Joe lives between Tribeca, NYC and the Catskill mountains in upstate New York. He works local in Los Angeles, and travels extensively to shoot all over.  In his downtime, when he is not taking pictures with his father’s old Hasselblad, he can be found tinkering away on a vintage car.
